The 64-slice CT scanner<\/h3>\n

\"cardio\"The department is equipped with highly effective imagery apparatuses such as the 64-slice CT scanner, which is associated with a wide range of techniques providing precise, case-by-case information on ambiguous lesions. Acquired by the CHU in 2006, this scanner is the only one in France dedicated to cardiology and managed by cardiologists, and its cardiological activity is among the most substantial on French territory, with nearly 1500 examinations a year. The department also engages in academic teaching and ensures practical training using the 64-slice CT scanner in the framework of a nationwide university diploma on sliced imagery.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Coronarography (two new-generation “Philips” coronarography rooms)<\/h3>\n

Coronarography is a medical imagery technique used in cardiology to visualize the coronary arteries. It is a complementary, invasive medical test applying radiography (X-ray imaging) and carrying out injection of an iodinated contrast agent.<\/p>\n

It is a highly practical test permitting visualization of the narrowing of one or more coronary arteries. It is sometimes performed following treatment by coronary angioplasty and through implantation of an intracoronary prosthesis : a STENT.<\/p>\n

The coronarography room\u00a0<\/strong>: A new coronarography room was recently created on the ground floor of the Ren\u00e9 Beauchant pavilion (heart-lung center) and pursues work in the functional exploration sector. Operational since April 2009, the room is equipped with a suspended arch employing Allura Xper FD 10F Philips flat panel detector technology valued at 665,000 euros. This new equipment contributes to diagnostic and therapeutic coronarographies.<\/p>\n

Cardiac MRI -> For further information<\/a><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the field of invasive imagery, the cardiology department has developed ultrasonic microprobe insertion in the coronary arteries, a practice rendering possible a highly precise evaluation of atheromatous plaques. Practitioners have also developed a method of inserting a pressure microguide downstream from a stenosis in the coronary artery to immediately measure the impact of the microprobe.<\/p>\n

These different types of functional explorations are exceedingly complementary, particularly as regards the comprehension and evaluation of coronary artery lesions. There also exists a high degree of synergy between the different intervening parties, who can simultaneously employ invasive and non-invasive techniques.<\/p>\n

The other techniques<\/p>\n

The pedal-operated examination bed: the stress test
\nOne of the new items in the non-blood and non-invasive technical platform is the pedal-operated examination bed; acquired in 2008, it allows a stress test to take place during an echocardiography. It can help to evaluate the severity of valvulopathies and to measure the impact of effort on the latter.<\/p>\n

Stress echocardiography
\nAnother new practice: stress echocardiography. This ultrasound of the heart is carried out following injection of dobutamine to simulate physical effort. It helps to screen and assess ischemic cardiopathies.<\/p>\n

Three-dimensional cardiac ultrasound
\nLastly, in 2009 cardiac ultrasound became three-dimensional with the acquisition of a cardiac ultrasound producing real-time visualization of three-dimensional cardiac structures.<\/p>\n

THE INNOVATIONS<\/h2>\n

Telemedicine: remote monitoring of patients equipped with a defibrillator and a pacemaker<\/p>\n

Remote home monitoring by telemedicine of heart failure patients.<\/p>\n

OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography): Since early 2013, the cardiovascular center has been equipped with optical coherence imagery technology. This new-generation infrared endocoronary imaging technique with 10-micron axial resolution is applied at the end of a coronography. OCT further improves the quality of diagnostics and angioplasties and completes the technical arsenal deployed in the cardiac catheterization room. In addition it allows the CHU to remain in the forefront of research and endovascular treatment of the coronary arteries.<\/p>\n

Renal denervation is applied in collaboration with the radiology department and addressed to patients with highly pronounced hypertension. The technique consists in denervating renal arteries during treatment of resistant arterial hypertension.<\/p>\n
